Gus Walz tears up watching dad's speech

Gus Walz steals the spotlight as his father, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, accepts the vice-presidential nomination. During the third night of the Democratic National Convention, as Gov. Walz addressed the crowd, his 17-year-old son Gus stood up, tears streaming down his face, and proudly pointed, exclaiming, "That’s my dad!"

Walz accepted the nomination to run alongside Vice President Kamala Harris, he shared a deeply personal story of the challenges he and his wife faced with fertility, including their use of intrauterine insemination (IUI) to conceive their children, Gus and Hope. 

The emotional context of the speech also touched on the recent turmoil surrounding reproductive rights, referencing a controversial ruling in Alabama that classified frozen embryos as people, potentially threatening access to fertility treatments like in vitro fertilization (IVF). This decision has sparked backlash, with many distancing themselves from the issue.
